A video provides your audience with a quick understanding of your system. It is a high-bandwidth format; you can convey a great deal of information to your audience quickly, but it is not well-suited to providing complex information that the user might need to study. The video should be brief and interesting. The following elements give you an overview of what you should include. Note that, in this case, we are assuming the audience (your peers and instructors) already know that you are building a system using GPS and haptic feedback.
components:
title -- an interesting title should capture the audience's attention, as well as clearly describe your project.
motivation -- what does your application do? what is its purpose?
system design (these may be highly inter-related) -- if it is a game, what rules are players following? does it support a real-world task? if you built a particularly interesting hardware implementation, you might highlight that as well.
specifics:
how GPS is incorporated -- what user actions are you capturing? what does this tell the system?
how haptic feedback is used -- to what is the feedback linked? what does it provide to your system? how does it aid the user?
background -- what elements of good human-centered design did you incorporate? how are you building on your knowledge?
new ground -- what are you doing that is (to your knowledge) innovative?
evaluation -- what is the user experience? if a game, was it fun? why? if a useful system, were people able to accomplish the task you set out for them? what breakdowns did you encounter; were there problems?
credits -- who is in your project group? (optionally, what did they do?)
other requirements:
Show your system in action!
All speech should be audible; if not, either re-shoot, or, if it is data, perhaps subtitles.
Be sure to hit all of the above sections, though they need not be in a particular order.
Be creative!
software:
Various software is available to make videos; if you are on a Mac, check out iMovie (or, if available, Final Cut), if you are on Windows, you can download Windows Movie Maker. Camtasia will enable you to capture video of your screen.
